As we have already talked about YG and JYP, now it’s time to talk about SM ENTERTAINMENT.
H.O.T is the first boy group ever to debut and is considered as the first generation idols. They shaped the future of their company SM ENTERTAINMENT and set goals for the reformed K-pop scene. SM after H.O.T. produced various groups about whom we will be talking later.
Lee-Soo-Man founder of SM handpicked these talented bunch after the result of a poll he handed out to high school students on what contributes to their taste of pop music
They debuted with the song ‘descendants of warriors’ which talked about bullying and the song that established a mark for them, ‘Candy’.
This album sold around 1.6 million copies and they snatched the new artist award from the Golden Disk Awards that year.
They produced amazing hits for 5 years that stole the hearts of many teenagers and then disbanded in 2001 due to a miscommunication with SM entertainment. They again reunited after 20 years in a Korean variety show ‘Infinite Challenge’. They are still accorded by many idol groups and are taken up as role models to thrive as a group in K-pop
Here’s them dancing to their songs together after 20 long years in the show. And here’s to all the fans who supported them then and now. I always wish that I was aware of K-pop from when I was born but here I just wish I was born a lot earlier to have witnessed groups like these shape up what is really K-pop
