Today I’m here with another jazz legend ❤. When I was looking for female jazz artists in the 80s-90s period, I found very few artists among them I found Carla Bley very interesting and her music was truly exceptional. This legend wasn’t just a musician but a true rebel.
Born in 1938 , Lovelly May Borg (Carla) had a difficult childhood because she had no proper guidance, her teen self was self obsessive and a bit destructive. But when she met Paul Bley her life turned around. She started touring with him and started building her own empire. He encouraged her to compose music and in 1957 Carla married Paul. They divorced later but she kept his surname professionally.
In the beginning I called her rebel because I learned about how she was an important figure in the free jazz movement of the 1960s. She was young and fierce and truly inspiring ❤. I listened to her music and I can definitely say that its still got that spirit. ‘United States’, ‘who will rescue you? ‘, ‘Misterioso’ are few of her works and they are incredible. She collaborated with a number of artists, few of them include- Gary Burton, Jimmy Giuffere, George Russell, Art Farmer, John Scofield etc.
~jazz lovers stay tuned as I’ll be posting more❤~
